 Studio Policy - Termly Lessons

Thank you for choosing to learn learn the Violin/piano with me. To ensure a great start and a positive working relationship; I've set out the studio policy (which is based on the ISM music lessons agreement),below. Any questions please ask, I'd be happy to answer.

1. Music Lesson Schedule

Music lessons are scheduled termly, following the school terms. Each school year consists of 6 terms. There can be up to 6 weeks of lessons per term, depending on how long the term(s) is/are. For example, if a term has 5 weeks, the invoice will cover 5 weeks of lessons.

The invoice will clearly state the dates and times of lessons reserved for the pupil for that term.

2. Fees

Payment of fees are due in advance of the lessons at the beginning of each term before the first lesson of the term. Invoices will be sent out a week before lessons are due to start. This will also include the start date for the following terms lessons.

Lesson fees are as follows:

20mins £14.00 suitable for young children aged 4 - 5

30mins £20.00

30mins paired lessons £12.50 each suitable for beginners on violin As pupils develop, their progress and l

learning styles vary as time goes on, individual lessons may then be more suitable.

45mins £30.00 suitable for grades 4 - 5

60mins £40.00

60min lessons can also be arranged every 2 weeks or as a ’ad hoc’ basis. Please ask me about availability. This is primarily for young adults and adults with work or study commitments but will also consider other reasons.

New starters can start lessons on any week in the term providing there is a slot available. Students can have 1 trial lesson before committing to termly lessons in advanced (paid for each in advance of the lesson), before deciding on whether to commit to termly lessons.

The complete beginner can have a free 15min taster lesson to see if this is something they would like to do on a termly basis.

30min shared lessons are suitable for beginner's on violin. As pupils develop, their progress and learning styles vary as time goes on, individual lessons may then be more suitable.

3. Payment of Fees

Fees can be paid by bank transfer.

4. Missed lessons

Please bear in mind that you don't just pay for the actual lesson, but for the weekly slot reserved for your child. For termly lessons, I cannot normally fill a slot on a one-off basis if I can't offer the prospective new pupil that slot as a regular weekly slot.

The teacher will charge for any scheduled lesson that the pupil does not attend, unless there are exceptional circumstances. In such cases, the teacher will attempt to make up the lesson as a replacement lesson during the term as either (a) or (b) below. If a mutually convenient time cannot be found, the lesson will remain chargeable.

I will use my discretion on a case-by-case basis if there are genuine reasons, as outlined above.

If the teacher cancels a scheduled lesson, the pupil can:

  1. receive a replacement lesson, on the same lesson day or different day in the term or in the school holidays at a mutually convenient time.

(b) the lesson can be carried forward to the following term.

(c) If (a) and (b) are not possible, then a full refund will be given to the pupil/pupil’s parent.

5. Examinations, competitions and public performances

The pupil will not be entered for any examination, competition or public performance without the agreement of both the teacher and the pupil (or pupil’s parent/carer if under 18.

6. Termination of tuition

  1. Lessons may be terminated by the pupil/pupil’s parent if under 18 or the teacher by giving 1 months’ notice in writing, before the end of the term.

 2. Where fees are not paid on time and the teacher has sent 2 reminders and no contact is made by the                    parent/pupil to discuss alternative payment options, the Teacher reserves the right to terminate this            agreement with immediate effect by giving written notice of termination to the pupil or pupil’s parent or carer. This    right to terminate is without prejudice to any other rights the Teacher may have.

7. Failure to give notice

If the pupil stops attending lessons during a term, the pupil (or the pupil’s parent or carer) is not entitled to a refund of any fees paid for that term. The pupil is entitled to attend any lessons paid for.

If the Teacher stops lessons without giving the correct notice, the Teacher shall refund any fees already paid for any lessons not given.

8. Conduct

If the Teacher, in his or her reasonable opinion, feels unable to continue tuition on account of unreasonable conduct by the Pupil or anyone connected with the Pupil, the fees for any outstanding lessons will not be refundable.

9. Changes

(a)Any changes to the terms of this Agreement must be confirmed in writing and signed and dated by both the Teacher and the Pupil (or the Pupil’s parent or carer of under18).

(b)If the Teacher chooses to waive any right or remedy under this Agreement or otherwise (for example, if the Teacher chooses to waive fees for any lessons which the Pupil does not attend) this shall not mean that he or she must do so in future or that he or she waives any other rights or remedies, unless agreed in writing in accordance with Condition 9(a) above.

10. Photos and videos

There may be times when the teacher plans to take photos/record short clips of lessons and performances for Facebook or the website. A letter will be sent beforehand, to all parents of pupils and pupils over 18, requesting permission for their children to appear in photos/videos. If you do not want your child to be included in photos or videos, please inform the teacher in writing.

11. Practising

I will give all adults/parents advice for practising at home. For the young beginner, it is the parent’s responsibility to establish a practise routine at home. Regular practice, attending lessons and parental involvement is key to the child’s progress.

12. Extra Lessons

Extra lessons outside of school terms can be arranged in school holidays upon request.
